The natural world is dominated by rhythm – from the daily back-and-forth bounce of the tides, to the intricate swing of birdsong. Humans are, of course, part of the natural world. Taking inspiration from the elements, this four part series explores drumming and percussion from around the world.

Much jazz music has been labelled "cool", likely due to the influence one Miles Davis, but witnessing jazz drummers at the peak of their improvisation is witnessing a raging fire – Unpredictable, intense, and innately thrilling. This episode explores performances from Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones and many more.
