Extra Extra - Episode 19

Rotterdam, 25.08.23

Dear listener, in this electrifyingly charged episode of the Extra Extra Radio Show, we dip our toes into deceptively exciting new surroundings: a sibling of The City, let’s say, an uncle of the urban, a mate of the metropolis. Your host, guide and favourite after-dinner cheeseboard Michael brings us to Suburbiaburbville, where the condom flavour of the day is always apple (hey, it tastes good with the cheeseboard). Despite its penchant for concealing sexy secrets behind a surface-level calm, we find that this seemingly contained neighbourhood is still not safe from rampant gamification as a group of fooling-around-teens summon an almighty presence: cue The High Riff Lord. He’s a man of many charms, with his robustly sexy voice and commandingly un-boring presence that could sway anyone into bed. But perhaps the most provocative of his powers is his linguistic spell, hurling the whole population of Suburbiaburbville into a riffing frenzy, a flurry of delicious scats and quivering chants. As we heat up to the scintillatingly suspenseful Final Riff Battle, suburban Harold – flip-flopped and freshly bewildered from a wild bedroom romp – must take on this 10-feet-tall, smoothly spray-tanned riffing Adonis. Join us and Michael in the ring, where we learn whether it’s better to be safely boring or riffaliciously sexy. And as is so often the case, the glistening promise of imminent sex just might save the day…

The show is written and performed by Dan Fox and Michael Portnoy in close collaboration with Loes Verstappen who selected the music, and Monte Masi.
