Focus on Juan Garcia Esquivel
Mexican band leader, pianist and composer Juan García Esquivel, also known monomously as Eqsuivel!, is regarded as the father of space age lounge music. Fusing big band instrumentation, latin rhythms and psychedelic, futuristic textures, Esquivel brought innovation and experimentalism to easy listening. He also applied this spirit of innovation to the recording of the music itself, pioneering brand new stereo techniques during the 1950s and '60s.
