In Focus: Philip Glass

Focus on Philip Glass

Humbly describing himself as a composer of "music with repetitive structures", composer Philip Glass' post-minimalist sound was born out of his study of atonal music, the work of Steve Reich and his fascination with sitarist Ravi Shankar. Throughout the course of the late 20th century, Glass has composed music for opera, popular film, his own ensemble and has earned popular and critical acclaim from the likes of David Bowie and Brian Eno.

This episode of In Focus looks back at the career of one America's most significant post-war composers.

Collection: Counterpoint
