Who's changed rap music more in the past five years than Carti? The Georgia-born rapper's style – at first attracting a cult audience, now attracting a mammoth global one – is entirely at odds with the traditionalist view of rap. To its detractors: mumble rap, a devolution of the genre's once revered lyricism and wordplay. To it's fans: the future - atmosphere, rockstar theatrics and voice-as-an-instrument experimentalism moving the genre into new territory.
