In Focus: Tricky

With Tricky

Raised in the Knowle West area of Bristol, Tricky began rapping in the 1980s, as a member of The Wild Bunch, which eventually evolved into Massive Attack. He provided vocals on Massive Attack's seminal 1992 album "Blue Lines", and embarked on a solo career, creating an sound all of his own. Influenced by soul & R&B as well as Bristol's soundsystem heritage, Tricky's debut "Maxinquaye" was claustrophobic & introspective, setting the tone for trip hop, one of the defining movements of 90s pop.
