Ian Lynch (Lankum)

Dublin, 15.12.24

A globetrotting hour seeking out the influence of Irish music in unexpected places, selected by Lankum founder Ian Lynch.

"Far from existing inside a pure and unchanging vacuum, Irish music has spread and made its presence felt all around the globe in many different ways.

Whether it be an English anarcho-punk band or an American hip-hop artist utilising a traditional tune, a Chinese musician playing a reel on the Hulusi, or an English vocal harmony singing a rebel ballad, the Irish tunes, lyrics and motifs that seem to endlessly pop up in various disparate musical genres never ceases to surprise and amaze me."
