Glenn Ligon is a native New Yorker who emerged from painting to create unique artworks that explore the meaning and aesthetics of Blackness. He has transformed text into abstraction, video into installation, and language into symbolism – notably drawing on the writing of icons like James Baldwin and Jean Genet.
