Sui Zhen w/ 非 Fēi

Melbourne, 16.07.24

With Sui Zhen

This month's show I invite guest, 非 Fēi to make selections. Fēi and I connected through the music community here in Naarm and also through the Malaysian diaspora as we both share Malaysian-Chinese heritage. I asked Fēi what feeling the music gave her, that sharpened her instinct when putting this mix together, and her answer is below:

It’s a mix of tracks that I’ve been drawn to, listened to on repeat, and played in DJ sets since I started my transition in December 2023. The tracks reflect the inner peace I’ve found since coming into acceptance of myself fully. It’s also a reflection of how trans womanhood has allowed me to feel and regulate my emotions on a deeper level than I ever have before - with regards to my life and the current climate that we’ve been living through. I tried to really quiet my mind with this and just go with the feels to find a balance between love and grief.

It is special gift to meet and make new friendships in life, and Fēi is one of those people who holds a special place in my heart as a carer of both my songs (one in the stars, and one here earthside) and also a musical friend and champion of my Sui Zhen musical endeavours. I feel lucky have Fēi take the reigns this month!
