Wassalou Special

An hour of Wassalou cassettes from the 1980s, created by NTS. Often cited as one of the West African precursors to the American blues, Wassalou music blends traditional and modern styles from Mali & Guinea, featuring powerful female vocals. Often, the songs contain lyrics relating to women's issues such as childbearing and fertility. The lyrics are often sung in call-and-reponse format.
