Archtects w/ Aimée Smith - Wally Badarou Special
Los Angeles, 15.01.24
Wally Badarou’s contributions to music are far reaching and his work has been fundamental to a surprising amount of projects and genres.
As part of the legendary Compass Point All Stars, assembled by Island Records’ founder Chris Blackwell, his synth work was at the forefront of groundbreaking albums with artists like Grace Jones, Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Mick Jagger, Jimmy Cliff, Gwen Guthrie and Gregory Isaacs.
He designed his studio around Sequential Circuits' Prophet 5 and New England Digital's Synclavier. Riding the wave of emerging technologies of the 80s, he was also an early adopter of custom voice-controlled Yamaha digital mixers.
As a writer, producer or session player Badarou worked with Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Level 42, Robert Palmer, Marianne Faithfull, Foreigner, Miriam Makeba, Manu Dibango, to name just a few.
His solo work, in particular Echoes, has been a muse for the Balearic scene, his synthesized rhythms and textures influenced by French-African roots, creating timeless landscapes, as if from another dimension.
