FOR THIS IS MY CORNWALL: St Piran's Day Special

05.03.24

Pastys at the ready for an hour of Cornish music of all flavours in celebration of St. Piran's Day, the national day of Cornwall.

The story goes: Piran, divinely blessed with the powers of healing, is envied by the King in 6th Century Ireland. A millstone is tied round Piran's neck, and he is tossed into the Irish Sea. Calm seas lead him ashore at Perranporth, where he establishes himself as a hermit. He founds an oratory, the remains of which still stand, and people flock from all over the land to speak with him, and witness him perform miracles.
