IN FOCUS: TAKASHI KOKUBO

A pioneer in the distinctly Japanese sonics of "environmental" sound design, composer Takashi Kokubo began his solo career in the early 1980s, making synthesizer compositions inspired by classical music in the vein of fellow Japanese composer Isao Tomita, but across the following decades, his productions would pay deep homage to the sounds of the natural world and its spiritually soothing properties – as both inspiration for his music, and as a prominent feature in the music itself.

"Upon the immediate and more recent effects of climate change worldwide, global warfare and globalized misery-enhancing processes, indifference coming from "developed nations" is often challenged and contrasted with the scarce reality of any Third World country. Yet, it is joyous when this challenge against indifference comes through boundary-pushing creative endeavors conceived and fed from said realities and territories. The following is an hour of effervescent and up-and-coming soundcrafts, conceived and coming exclusively from the South of the Ameri(k)as.
