Like the gold that sits untainted under the silt of a riverbed, good pop music never really loses it's sheen, and it cares little for passing fads: Glasgow's The Blue Nile were creators of such music. All the good stuff that pop songwriting thrives on - ennui, longing, fleeting joy - were present in frontman Paul Buchanan's lyrics, which told sophisticated urban tales of love and loss.
