While the rest of their electronic music contemporaries in the late 1990s reached for dancefloor ecstacy and big room bombast, French duo Air paved an influential path with a more delicate and atmospheric sound. Taking inspiration from old school film composers and vintage synthesiser wizards like Burt Bacharach, Isao Tomita and Vangelis, they shot to success with a distinct sonic world. I’ve made a few mixes recently which explore the influences behind my new record Under~Between. This is not that. This is just a bunch of really really good songs, which i’ve loved for years. Inevitably they are influences really but perhaps less obvious ones. Hopefully it makes you feel good about life for an hour.
