70s Breton Psychedelic Folk and Rock w/ Léna C
Hebden Bridge, 27.12.24
Brittany, the only Celtic region in France, boasts a rich cultural heritage—music, language, dances, costumes, and events. Growing up in a family of traditional musicians, I initially rebelled and distanced myself from my musical roots. However, after living in the UK for over a decade, I reconnected with my heritage and began exploring the music created in Brittany during the 1970s. This era marked the revival of Celtic psychedelic folk and rock, carrying a powerful message of liberation and independence for Brittany, in response to what was seen as France's cultural and political domination over the distinctive regional identities across the country. The music from this period blends traditional Breton melodies with the psychedelic flair that defined the 70s globally. Many of the tracks featured in this mix aren't available online, so I recorded most of it from my personal record collection.
