The Wild Bunch

The Wild Bunch

The Wild Bunch has been played over 20 times on NTS, first on 8 November 2014. The Wild Bunch's music has been featured on 14 episodes.

There are two groups referred to as the Wild Bunch:

1) The Wild Bunch were a female UK reggae band who were released on Mad Professor's Ariwa Sounds in the early 1980s. Their only release was The Wild Bunch.

2) Influential hip-hop and reggae sound system from Bristol, England. Key members went on to form Massive Attack and join Soul II Soul.

Original members were Miles Johnson (DJ Milo), Nellee Hooper and Grant Marshall (Daddy G). Rappers Claude Williams (Willie Wee) and Robert Del Naja (3D) joined later, as did - peripherally - the younger Andrew Vowles (Mushroom).

Del Naja left during a tour of Japan (organised by Face magazine and Neneh Cherry), but went on to form Massive Attack with Daddy G and Mushroom. Johnson and Hooper signed a deal with Island as The Wild Bunch, resulting in their only commercial releases.

Hooper joined Jazzie B's Soul II Soul before producing for Sinead O'Connor, Bjork and Madonna. Johnson collaborated on Japan's Major Force label and moved to New York. Williams appeared on Massive Attack's debut album, co-writing "Five Man Army", and later joined The Baby Namboos.
