As an introduction to our exploration of British reggae, we explore the foundational sub-genre of lovers rock, with three guests who have intimate knowledge of the sound and its political resonance.
Sandra Cross, Dr Denise Noble, and Dr Lisa Palmer discuss the women of the sound, the gendered and "erotic politics" of the genre, and the spaces in which the music was played - at a time in Britain when young Black men and women were forming a distinct cultural identity.
