Labour - Sufi Special

This month’s show, created in Dakar as the preparations for Tabaski slowly begin, focuses on the religious music of Sufi Islam as heard from the select repertoire of past guests including Mbene Diatta Seck’s Tijan praise, Molamine Ndiaye Rose’s Baye Fall incantation, two tracks from Ndongo Lo praising Serigne Fallou of the Mouride brotherhood and son of Cheikh Amadou Bamba as previously heard on LABOUR’s In Focus: Ndongo Lo in 2020, and Doudou Ndiaye Rose’s collaboration with the Christian choir in Dakar led by the late great Julien Jouga. In addition to these religious tributes, the show contains recordings of worship as is common to hear on the radio and on bootleg tapes in the taxi cabs of Dakar and throughout the country. Both Ndongo Lo and Doudou Ndiaye Rose are buried at the holy city of Touba, Senegal. Jerejef Serigne Touba!
